ABOUT IONA
ENGINEERING & MUSICAL MAGIC
My expertise lies in analog studio recording and creative digital music production, as well as mixing/mastering. I have also worked on outdoor recordings.
I like to work with artists to find a unique sound for every project, imbuing that extra touch of magic while also ensuring the music truly sounds like you and brings your vision to life.
I’m also always happy to add strings to songs if needed, with over 20 years’ experience playing the violin.
I'm lucky to be mentored by Sean Woodlock & Mikko Gordon and to have had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects, including for Nigel Godrich (From The Basement) and Bill Dare (BBC Radio 4), as well as many wonderful musicians and artists, including Geese, Goblin Band, Amplify Her, The Water Chorus, Creature & Machine, and Liya Shapiro.
PROJECT PRODUCTION
As a producer/engineer I'm all about working with you to make your record happen! Whether you're a solo artist, band, or organisation/ From EP's and albums, to singles, radio shows, or live sessions.
I'll put together a comprehensive session/project guide to keep us on track, so we know how we'll get from idea to finished music, including schedule, budget, location, and any musicians or other personnel we might like bring on board.
INTERVIEWS, PODCASTS, & VIDEOS

I was a guest on Lilly of Creature & Machine's podcast "The Thing Itself - The Psychology of Creativity".

FROM STUDIOS TO HILLTOPS...
The studio is such a creative and magical space where you can just get lost in making sound. At the moment I'm a resident at Hackney Road Studios, which is full of amazing pro analog gear and has a lovely live room as well as production/mix room.
We can even get the tape machine out, if that's what the project calls for! And you're always welcome to bring your own gear and instruments.
FOLK, ALT POP, INDIE/ROCK, CINEMATIC POP
Folk, alt pop, indie/rock, and cinematic pop are my main areas of expertise.
I grew up in the UK's Celtic folk scene, have played violin for 20 years, and have always been a huge lover of alternative, folk, indie/rock, and cinematic pop genres.
I have a Master's degree in Popular Music from Goldsmiths College (University of London).
I'm always happy to add violin or fiddle to songs - I am able to write full string parts and harmonies where needed.

Sarah Ruth, Artist
"I had an amazing time recording and producing my songs with Iona. Despite this being my first time in any sort of recording space, Iona made me feel immediately at home and at ease. She replies quickly and was always able to answer any questions I had, and was happy to hop on a video call to explain anything to me. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better first studio/production experience!"
Anonymous, Songwriter
"Iona was a very considerate, attentive, and generous collaborator. My music felt well looked after in her hands. I felt comfortable to express my needs, and also learned a lot from her expertise. Overall, it was a professional, warm, and positive experience!"
